Biography of Mohsin Qayyum MD, MBA

As the president and CEO of Progressive Behavioral Health, Mohsin Qayyum MD, MBA, guides the team by example, with a tangible passion for improving the lives of every patient who comes to them for help. He has a gift for making patients feel comfortable and secure, even when they feel vulnerable and often unsure of the next step to take toward a fulfilling life.

Leading expert in multiple psychiatric specialties

Dr. Qayyum meets each patient as an individual, using guidelines to determine their diagnosis, while at the same time recognizing that their unique experience may demand thinking outside the box to develop a treatment that best meets their psychological needs. He believes in a holistic approach that strives to improve his patients’ medical, psychiatric, nutritional, and social well-being.

He treats the full range of psychiatric conditions, with special areas of interest in adult and geriatric psychiatry, occupational psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. Dr. Qayyum is certified to perform outpatient narcotics detoxification and maintenance treatment using buprenorphine and Suboxone®.

Medical and professional training from renowned universities

Dr. Qayyum received his medical degree at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and then completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Chicago. During this time, he was proud to serve as the chief resident in the Department of Psychiatry.

He went on to complete a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Extensive experience in psychiatry and disability management in the workplace

Dr. Qayyum spent several years as an assistant clinical professor at Chicago Medical School before relocating and serving in the same position at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition to his position at Progressive Behavioral Health, Dr. Qayyum is a medical director at CIGNA.

With extensive management expertise in the insurance industry, Dr. Qayyum has worked with major corporations in the United States, assisting them with disability management and mental health issues in the workplace. He’s available for consultation on issues related to workers’ compensation, psychiatric disabilities, absenteeism, and the emerging field of presenteeism.
