Bethany Matheson is passionate about working with children, adolescents, individual adults, and couples around issues of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life transition. As both a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Yoga Teacher, Bethany uses a trauma-informed, somatic (body-based) approach to therapy. She completed her M.Ed. at Vanderbilt University in Human Development Counseling – clinical mental health track. In addition, she has a certificate in Trauma Counseling from UWM and a 100hr certificate in Trauma-Informed Yoga. She is a EMDR Certified Therapist, and has experience utilizing play therapy modalities such as Theraplay and TBRI.
Bethany teaches coping skills for self-regulation to address specific anxiety and depressive symptoms. She is able to offer hope to clients who feel trapped by the debilitating, long term physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety and complex PTSD.
As a military spouse, Bethany is able to empathize with the unique struggles that military families face, including chronic stress, marital challenges, long separations, and trauma. She is available to work with military children, spouses, and service members/veterans to empower the family unit and develop lasting resiliency.
