Provider type: Nurse Practitioner
Cristina Winters is dual certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and trained to provide care for people of all ages.
She received her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She worked 13 years as a Registered Nurse in the operating room, recovery room, and surgical intensive care unit. She also served in the Army as an RN caring for patients in a surgical setting in a leadership role as an Army Officer. In 2009 she graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as a Family Nurse Practitioner and she worked in family practice, pain management, and urgent care. In 2014 she earned her Doctorate from Texas Woman’s University and has been teaching graduate students at the university level ever since. In 2015 she received her Post Master’s certificate in Nursing Education to enhance her role as a professor. In 2019 she graduated with her Post Master’s certificate as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
She conducts assessments, performs diagnostic testing as appropriate, and provides medication management when appropriate. She will recommend therapy as a key part of the treatment plan when appropriate and closely monitors the patients as necessary to ensure that they are responding appropriately to treatment. Non-pharmacologic treatments are also often recommended to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
She believes that often times when one’s psychiatric/mental health is treated and improved, that one’s medical health can also improve. She enjoys having the perspective of both the psychological as well as the physiological aspect of the patient to be able to treat them as a “whole” in order to improve overall patient outcomes.
