Going to therapy is not easy. I understand talking to a stranger about your thoughts and feelings is difficult. So, congrats on taking this first step. My name is Kathleen and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. For the past 8 years of my licensure I have worked within the private practice sector and college setting. I have primarily worked with young adults and adults.
I approach each client based on their needs, situation, culture, lived experiences, and goals. I tend to move fluidly through the following approaches: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Client-Centered, Dialectic-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gestalt, and Psychodynamic. What does that all mean? I try to bend and move with my client’s needs and where they are in their therapeutic process. For instance, if you have an increase in anxiety you may want to attend therapy to learn coping skills. Then, later down the road you may want to identify and process your triggers of anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc… When a client’s needs and goals shift, so do I. I believe my role in any therapeutic relationship is to help you, the expert of your life, achieve your goals by providing non-biased emotional support, insight oriented dialogue, compassion, empathy, and strengths based approaches.
A little bit more about me, I am originally from upstate NY. I received my Bachelor's degree in psychology from Cazenovia College, NY in 2007 and then went down to North Carolina where I completed my Master's degree from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2009. I enjoy helping people become the person they want to become. Life can be difficult and sometimes we need someone in our corner. I wish you the best and I hope to talk with you soon!
