Ms. Martina Gallagher is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Progressive Behavioral Health. She completed her psychiatric mental health training at the Cizik School of Nursing- University of Texas at Houston and is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. At the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, she received a BSN, MSN, and PhD in nursing. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University Of Washington School Of Nursing where she studied the effects of poor sleep on overall health. Her areas of practice specialty include ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, and Schizophrenia, with a strong interest in binge eating disorder.
When treating patients, Ms. Gallagher combines evidence-based care and patient’s sociocultural background. She believes that her patients are experts of their own lives and her role is one of collaborator to help patients achieve their goals. Through medication management, psychoeducation and a tailored treatment plan, she helps patients experience an improved the quality of life and joy. Patient education is a priority for her because it ensures her patients understand their treatment plan and medications. She has a kind and compassionate manner. Although she was born in the U.S.A, Ms. Gallagher lived most of her childhood in Mexico. Therefore she is fluent in Spanish.
In addition to her current outpatient work, Ms. Gallagher continues to teach at the Cizik School of Nursing. In her free time she enjoys reading, walking her dog Chloe, dancing and cooking for family and friends.
