About Michelle Petmi, NP

Michelle understands that the individual is the expert of his or her own life, and tries to foster an environment where one can develop skills to manage difficulties and gain insight into unique personal challenges. She is trained in the use of both medication management and brief psychotherapy to help individuals reach their desired goals. She has experience in treating a range of Psychiatric conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma related disorders and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. She has special interests in working with young adults dealing with life transitions, minority mental health, and individuals experiencing first episode psychosis. From the initial evaluation, her goal is to develop a collaborative relationship where the individual can eventually explore all aspects of themselves in a meaningful way and without judgment. If medications are indicated, she employs a shared decision making model of care and encourage active involvement in creating a personalized treatment plan suited to their specific needs.
She is a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Michelle obtained her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York, completed her graduate training at National University in California and subsequently received adequate training at Psychiatric Solutions Clinics, hospitals and nursing facilities. Between her time as a Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner, she has been fortunate to have gained experience in providing Psychiatric and mental health nursing services in a wide variety of settings including inpatient units, and skilled nursing facilities.
